Contemporary jazz leader Lindsey Webster recorded her new album “A Woman Like Me” at United Recording shortly before the Safer at Home order was issued. The sultry and soulful young singer/composer’s refreshing approach has garnered two Billboard #1’s and seven Top 10’s on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart, making her the first vocalist in the format to garner a #1 since the iconic Sade.
Webster’s new album, “A Woman Like Me”, is a dazzling 11-track excursion that further solidifies her allure as both a songwriter and singer. Her goal all along has been simple. “I want to continue to bring realness to the music world. I don’t want to sing about things I don’t feel,” says the Woodstock native.
For her sessions at United, Webster assembled a cast of legendary sidemen to realize her vision: Luis Conte on percussion, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, Nathan East on bass, and Keith Slattery on keys, who also shares producer and composer credits. Mark Gray engineered alongside United’s Wesley Seidman.
“I had the pleasure of working with Lindsey for the first time in Carmel at the Jazz Weekender concert series,” commented bassist Nathan East. “She captivated the entire audience with her amazing singing and that night we both made a promise that we would work together again. Her new album is only the beginning of what I hope to be many more collaborations together.”
The album’s first single, “Feels Like Forever”, hit #14 on the Billboard charts, followed by “One Step Forward”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBhK7PDd9tc
Webster’s first career single, “Fool Me Once”, reached number one on the Smooth Jazz chart at Billboard magazine in 2016. Since then, she has scored six Top 5 hits, including “Where Do You Want To Go” (#1), “Back To Your Heart” (#2), “Open Up” (#3), “Next To Me” (#3), and “Love Inside”.
“Working at United was a dream come true,” Webster recalls. “It was inspiring to be in a building with such an incredible history — to stand where some of my musical idols once stood before me. Not to mention recording with some of my favorite musicians of all time. Oh, and of course, the amazing staff at United made the experience such a pleasure. I can’t wait to get back!”
